Otis Elevator Company Recalls Private Residence Elevators Due to Entrapment Hazard

Private Residence Elevators

Otis Elevator recently announced a recall on their Otis and CemcoLift Private Residence Elevators as children can become entrapped in the space between the exterior landing (hoistway) door and the interior elevator car door or gate.  This entrapment can cause serious injuries or death when the elevator is called to another floor.

This safety alert can easily be repaired by means of the installation of a space guard to eliminate the gap between the two doors.

The recall involves private residence elevators that were installed before 2012.
