Kencor Employees Participate in Electrical Training
January 23, 2020 – This week, employees across Kencor, Inc.’s construction, service, and repair departments participated in a multi-day electrical training to continue to improve their skills. The intensive, hands-on educational events are part of Kencor’s ongoing commitment to enhance service and safety from informed personnel.
Kencor Elevator Systems partnered with TPC Training to deliver instruction. Instructor Mike Chambers said, “My goal is that everyone learns at least one thing in class.” Kencor, Inc.’s staff confirmed that indeed they learned much more. Tiffany Atkins, a company Service Technician, shared, “I wanted a good refresher as well as to learn something new.” She agreed that she accomplished both.
For Service Technician Jason Marvel, the training is another opportunity to develop his foundational skills with Kencor, Inc.: “I came in late to the industry; this [training] is a way for me to catch up. It’s very helpful.” Jason and Tiffany’s insights reveal how Kencor, Inc. offers educational opportunities to employees at every stage of their careers. Their combined learning improves their work and confidence, which in turn positively affects service and safety.
Some of the material covered over multiple days included the operation of motor starters, motor controllers, and control circuitry. However, the majority of instructional time, Chambers noted, is spent on troubleshooting. Employees are taught how to read electrical diagrams and documents correctly and comprehensively. Additionally, they’re instructed on the effective documentation skills to implement when completing work. Ultimately, Chambers noted, all troubleshooting is also about safety.
By the end of the week, 30 Kencor Elevator Systems employees will be equipped with reinforced and added skills. Kencor, Inc. will continue to provide learning opportunities for its staff year-round to support its goals for improved elevator safety combined with exceptional technical and customer service.
